The Cotswold is a large rural constituency, 65 miles long by 35 miles at the widest point, containing some of the most beautiful countryside and architecture in Britain; the Cotswolds has the highest proportion of listed buildings of any constituency. 

It contains some eight small market towns, the largest being Cirencester. Recent boundary changes incorporated North Nibley and Minchinhampton into the seat.

Tourism has now overtaken agriculture as the largest single employer.  Other industries include defence, electronics and financial services as well as a range of small manufacturing businesses.


The 2010 General Election:

  • Total of 76,728 votes cast (71.5% of electors)
  • Conservative majority of 12,864 (polling 53% of the vote).
  • Conservative/Liberal Democrat Coalition accounts for 82.6% of all votes cast.
